What is running pace?
Running pace is the time it takes to cover a unit of distance, usually expressed as minutes per kilometre (min/km) or minutes per mile (min/mi). A pace of 5:00/km means 5 minutes to run 1 kilometre. Pace and speed are inverses — faster speed = lower (better) pace number.
What is a good 5km pace?
Average adult runner: 6:00–8:00/km (30–40 min for 5km). Intermediate runner: 5:00–6:00/km. Advanced runner: 4:00–5:00/km. Elite: under 3:30/km. A good first 5km target is under 30 minutes (6:00/km pace).
What is a marathon pace?
A sub-4-hour marathon requires a pace of 5:41/km. Sub-3:30 = 4:58/km. Sub-3:00 = 4:16/km. Sub-2:30 = 3:33/km. The world record (2:00:35) requires a 2:51/km pace. Most recreational marathoners target 4–5 hours (5:41–7:06/km).
