Your Chinese zodiac may differ from your birth year's "official" animal

Western zodiac isn't affected by this

Assuming Chinese zodiac = birth year number
"I was born in 2023, so I'm a Rabbit" is only correct if your birthday falls on or after that year's Lunar New Year (January 22, 2023) — anyone born January 1-21, 2023 is actually a Tiger (2022's sign).
Treating either zodiac system as predictive
Both Western and Chinese zodiac signs are cultural and astrological frameworks, not scientifically validated predictors of personality or life events.
Forgetting leap-day (Feb 29) birthdays work normally
A February 29 birthday resolves correctly to Pisces under the Western zodiac — no special handling is needed since the calculation compares month and day directly.
