Frequently Asked Questions
How is the due date calculated?
Naegele's Rule: add 280 days (40 weeks) to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). This assumes a 28-day cycle and ovulation on day 14. Only about 5% of babies are born exactly on their due date — most arrive within 2 weeks either side.
What are the pregnancy trimesters?
First trimester: weeks 1-12. Second trimester: weeks 13-26. Third trimester: weeks 27-40. Full term is considered 37-42 weeks. Babies born before 37 weeks are premature.
What is the anatomy scan?
The anatomy scan (also called the 20-week scan or morphology scan) typically happens at 18-22 weeks. It checks the baby's development, organ structure, and can determine the sex if desired.
